HIGH-LOAD INDUSTRIAL CHROME STEEL BEARINGS (GCr15)
Ball Bearings
Chrome steel deep groove ball bearings widely used in electric motors, automotive systems, industrial machinery, and agricultural equipment. GCr15 steel delivers high hardness, excellent wear resistance, and smooth rotation ideal for high-speed and heavy-duty applications.
Flange Bearings
Chrome steel flange bearings with integrated flanges for secure axial positioning and simplified installation. Commonly used in conveyor systems, textile machinery, printing equipment, and automation devices requiring stable alignment and reliable rotation.
Angular Contact
Chrome steel angular contact bearings designed to handle combined radial and axial loads at high speeds. Frequently applied in machine tool spindles, pumps, compressors, CNC equipment, and precision industrial machinery demanding high accuracy and rigidity.
Double Row AC
Double row angular contact chrome steel bearings providing enhanced load capacity and excellent operational stability. Ideal for automotive transmissions, heavy industrial motors, gearboxes, and high-performance machinery operating under combined radial and axial load conditions.
Self-aligning
Chrome steel self-aligning bearings that automatically compensate for shaft misalignment and mounting inaccuracies. Widely used in agricultural machinery, conveyor systems, fans, and industrial equipment where smooth performance and reduced vibration are critical.
Thrust Bearings
Chrome steel thrust bearings engineered to support high axial loads with precision and reliability. Common applications include automotive steering systems, machine tools, lifting equipment, pumps, and rotating industrial machinery requiring dedicated axial load handling.
Spherical Plain
Chrome steel spherical plain bearings designed for oscillating movement and heavy dynamic loads. Commonly used in hydraulic cylinders, construction equipment, mining machinery, agricultural machinery, and heavy-duty mechanical linkage systems requiring durability and flexibility.
WHAT IS CHROME STEEL IN BEARINGS? (GCr15 / AISI 52100)
Chrome steel bearings are built from high-carbon chromium bearing steel — most commonly GCr15 (China GB standard), the direct equivalent of AISI 52100 (USA), 100Cr6 (DIN/EN) and SUJ2 (JIS). After quenching and tempering, the rings and rolling elements reach a hardness of 60–66 HRC, giving an outstanding balance of load capacity, wear resistance and rolling-contact fatigue life.
This is why chrome steel is the default material for the majority of industrial bearings: it carries heavier radial and axial loads than stainless at a lower cost, and performs reliably at high rotational speeds. The trade-off is corrosion resistance — chrome steel is not stainless, so it depends on grease, seals (2RS/ZZ) and a dry/indoor environment to stay protected.
Chrome Steel vs Stainless Steel Bearings
| Property | Chrome Steel (GCr15 / 52100) | Stainless Steel (AISI 440C) |
|---|---|---|
| Hardness | 60–66 HRC (higher) | ~58–60 HRC |
| Load capacity | High — best for heavy duty | Moderate |
| Corrosion resistance | Low — needs seals & grease | High — wet / chemical environments |
| Speed rating | Excellent | Good |
| Relative cost | Lower | Higher |
| Best for | Motors, gearboxes, spindles, heavy industrial | Food, medical, marine, washdown |
CHROME STEEL BEARINGS — FAQ
What exactly is "chrome steel" in bearings?
It refers to high-carbon chromium bearing steel (GCr15 / AISI 52100 / 100Cr6 / SUJ2). It is not literally chrome-plated — the name comes from the chromium alloy content that enables very high hardness and fatigue life after heat treatment.
Chrome steel or stainless steel — which should I choose?
Choose chrome steel when loads are high, speeds are elevated, and the environment is dry or only mildly humid — it is stronger and more economical. Choose stainless steel (440C) when the bearing is exposed to water, steam, chemicals or food/marine conditions where rust must be avoided.
What hardness and load capacity does chrome steel provide?
Finished rings and balls typically reach 60–66 HRC. This high surface hardness supports heavy radial and axial loads and delivers long rolling-contact fatigue life under continuous operation.
Can chrome steel bearings be used outdoors or in wet environments?
Not unprotected. Chrome steel will rust if exposed to moisture. For wet or outdoor duty use sealed variants (2RS/ZZ) with waterproof grease, or switch to stainless steel. ZGBK can advise on sealing and lubrication for your exact condition.
What temperature range can chrome steel bearings handle?
With standard grease, the typical operating range is about −30 °C to +150 °C. Special high-temperature steels, stabilising treatments and high-temp greases can extend this — contact our engineers for demanding thermal cycles.
Which chrome steel bearing series does ZGBK manufacture?
Deep groove ball, flanged deep groove, angular contact, double-row angular contact, self-aligning, thrust, and spherical plain bearings — all listed above and available in standard inch and metric sizes with custom tolerances.
How should chrome steel bearings be lubricated?
Most are supplied greased and sealed for maintenance-free operation. Open or shielded types can use grease or oil; relubrication intervals depend on speed, load and temperature. Proper lubrication is the single biggest factor in service life.
